Camp Thrive Week 2

What a beautiful week we’ve had together!

We learned about dairy, made whipped cream and cheese from scratch, and even tried our hand at primitive crafts. The kids made cowhide tin can drums, homemade clay beads, and practiced weaving on cardboard looms. They also painted with watercolors..Imagination was in full bloom!

For stewardship, we worked hard together: mucking stalls, watering the garden, turning compost, and washing eggs with care. Our animals (and garden!) are lucky to have such kind helpers.

We hope to see you all again for Week 3, starting Tuesday, July 1st!

Camp Thrive

Day 1 of Camp Thrive was bursting with discovery:

  • Eight newborn bunnies! Campers quietly peeked at the fur‑lined nest.
  • Water‑balloon “egg toss” helped everyone learn names.
  • Tie‑dye shirts now drying—rinse them tomorrow night (cold water, wash separately) so kids can wear them for Thursday’s photo.
  • Barn rounds: chickens, goats, sheep, pig, and Muffin the dog all got plenty of love.

Coming up this week

  • Paint & decorate wooden eggs
  • Hard‑boiled‑egg + pickle tasting
  • Felt bunny pouches & dreamcatchers
  • Eggshell chalk, mineral tooth powder, jar mayonnaise and egg shell “smoothies”

March 20th, 2025

We had such a great time at Barn Days this week! For team building, we played a compass navigation game, and we read The Tree Lady, the true story of Kate Sessions, a pioneer and activist who transformed her city with trees.

For stewardship, we spread sunflower seeds, cleaned eggs, turned compost, and played with the goats, sheep, and pig. The chickens are back to laying, which is exciting!

For Discovery Spotlight, we met Cove and Lake’s dog, Theo, who was such a sweet pup! Lake also shared some incredible 3D-printed toys that he and his family made.

A big moment this week—after waiting six months for our gourds to dry, we finally cut them open! We discussed knife and saw safety to ensure everyone was using tools properly. The kids carefully cut their gourds, sanded them, scooped out seeds to save for next year’s planting, and even took some home. Since it was chilly outside, we enjoyed some hot chocolate afterward.

Today was the first day of Explorers!

The morning was filled with movement and learning. We played math games, kicked off our running club, and dove into a science experiment—creating erupting volcanoes using dough and dirt. The kids were captivated as they watched their mini-volcanoes come to life!

For another hands-on project, we built small-scale landscapes in trays using sand, ice, and sugar cubes to represent different rock formations. Later, we listened to a Naya Nuki read-aloud, then began constructing Huts & Teepees to explore the traditional homes of indigenous peoples. To end the day, we sang folk songs while using shakers—blending history, music, and movement in a way that felt both natural and joyful.

It was a blessing to see the children so engaged, eager to learn, and filled with wonder. The dream of Little Light Log Cabin is truly coming to life!
